Friday, 19 February 2010 Website Suspended/Offline (TEMPORARILY!!)

The massively popular UFO website is currently showing a, “Website Suspended" message:

This is NOT due to anything other than administrational difficulties which have come about by the owner (Mr BJ Booth) trying to provide a higher quality service to his readership by way of posting (and making available for download) high quality videos which directly relate to articles published on his website.

(BJ Booth had the following to say:)

I received no warning from my serving company on this matter.

Here is what happened:

As you know the main site gets a ton of page views, often as many as 1 million per day. I had recently redone our entire video section to high quality files that you can stream or download.

As a result of the enormous traffic the new section received, it was putting a lag on the entire bluedomino site world wide. I spent an hour dealing with them on this issue. I pay them well, for unlimited bandwidth, but they would not budge.

So, to get back online, I had to delete 459 files in my new video directory.

I will put a message on the main site page about what happened as soon as they put me back on.

The above hasn't been publicly posted (in full) but I assure you this is in fact exactly what happened and the problems are currently being ironed out.

Of course one would hope that no-one would be naïve enough to believe there is anything untoward or clandestine regarding this temporary suspension before checking the facts. (Although admittedly stranger conspiracies abound!!)

But just in case this Blog post is purely to quell any possible conspiracy theories before they arise, a pre-emptive strike if you like…..

UK UFO – South Shields, 2010 Valentines Day UFO Report (Crowned with circular array)

I was recently contacted by South Shields resident, Rick Frame, who wanted to share the details of his recent UFO sighting. It hasn't been reported anywhere else and from our brief correspondence the witness (Rick) appears genuine, hasn't contacted the media and so has nothing to gain by sharing his experience. (And of course permission was granted to share his report).

14th February at 5.30 (p.m) in the South Shields area.

The object was a vertical cylinder with arms jutting out at the top of the cylinder. At the bottom was a bright orange light.

This was not a Chinese lantern and it moved very slowly but very accurately to the north. My wife and several other people in my street saw the object but didn't really pay it much attention. By the time I had ran into the house to get my SLR camera the object had disappeared.

However when I went to look from my bedroom window the object was now far north and slowly rising toward the cloud ceiling (I could no longer make out the object just the distinctive bright orange light). The object would have had to have moved very quickly in the 4 minute or so this sighting occurred.

I replied with a couple of questions which were as follows:

Regarding your recent account, firstly I won't insult your intelligence but it would be negligent not to mention the fact that South Shields experiences quite a bit of air traffic due to the direction/distance it is located in relation to Newcastle airport. But the fact that you can instantly dismiss Chinese lanterns as a possibility (a possibility due to, I suspect, the orange light) then I also suspect that the air traffic isn't unfamiliar to you?

I wanted to ask what you meant by, “jutting out at the top of the cylinder”?

Did the protrusions appear parallel to each other (exactly opposite?) also how large were the protrusions in relation to the object (e.g. same size, half etc.) and were they in the top quarter, top third, etc.?

Did the object remain vertical as it was travelling in the Northerly direction you described?

And finally have you or anyone you know of reported this sighting?

And Rick swiftly replied with the following information:

The protrusions were protruding at the top of the cylinder in a circular array as a crown if you will. I didn't see how many protrusions as the fading light and distance of the object at my very inexact estimates around a few hundred feet meant it was hard to resolve (I was also in a hurry to get my dslr with zoom lens on it.) I live right over the flight path into Newcastle airport and this was no conventional aircraft.

It made no sound and just seemed to move I would say drift but there was no chaotic momentum to it I would argue that it's propulsion was not inertia based, but that would make me sound like an expert, which I am not.

I have not reported it to the police or the local newspaper as I am very sceptical of their reporting style and do not want to be labelled as a nutter.

I would be happy for you to post it on your blog and you can use my name.

Sketches From The Fifth Tranche of MoD UFO Files

Many of the released files included sketches. A craft containing three beings was drawn by a passenger on a flight from Heathrow to Hong Kong in 1993.

A drawing and description of a "flying saucer" sighting over Watford in Hertfordshire was also among the 6,000 pages of newly-released documents.

A sighting above Trenale Lane, near Tintagel, Cornwall, was also documented. The artist identified a dome at the front of the craft as the cockpit.

Another eyewitness submitted a drawing of a triangle-shaped craft seen close to a pylon above Knutsford in Cheshire.

Two "missile-shaped" UFOs were also captured in a sketch by a witness in Smethwick, West Midlands, in 1954.

A triangle-shaped craft was also drawn by a witness who described seeing it above Oldbury, West Midlands, on 9 August 1995.

Another notes the diameter of the unidentified craft they saw flying above their car in Malmesbury in Wiltshire. In his report to police the following day, the man, from Newport, Gwent, said his car had been surrounded for five minutes by a "tube of light" which had swept towards him from the north east, during which time both his radio and mobile phone stopped working. The man reported that he was ill following his brush with the unknown.

The report said:

"He felt and was indeed sick later on. He is still feeling ill today (28/1/97) and has developed a skin condition. Advised to see doctor."

Fifth Tranche of MoD UFO Files Released by TNA (Feb 2010)

From midnight on Wednesday, 24 files containing more than 6,000 pages of material can be downloaded from The National Archives UFO page.

Close Encounters of the Second Kind: the latest release of UFO files (18 February) - 5th tranche of Ministry of Defence UFO files by The National Archives.

An unfortunate man from Ebbw Vale, Wales, got more than he bargained for when an unidentified 'tube of light' enveloped his car as he drove home one night, covering it in 'dust and dirt' and causing his mobile phone and radio to fail.

Once home, the man was physically sick and later developed a skin condition, which required medical attention. The incident, officially reported 28 January 1997, features among the intriguing stories found in the latest instalment of UFO files released today by The National Archives.

The fifth online release is the largest to date, containing 24 files and totalling over 6,000 pages of material spanning 1994-2000.

Other highlights include:

  • A UFO sighted by Boston and Skegness Police captured on film and then spotted by a ship's crew in the North Sea. Simultaneously, an unidentified blip was picked up on radar over Boston. A detailed investigation followed, which identified some of the lights as the planet Venus rising and the blip on the radar as 'a permanent echo' made by a tall church spire.

  • A Birmingham man arrived home at 4am to find a large, illuminated blue triangle hovering over his garden. The craft 'shot off' leaving behind a 'silky-white' substance on tree tops in his garden, which he saved in a jam-jar. The file that contains the report of the incident does not reveal what happened to the substance.

  • Copies of original statements taken from the UK's 'Roswell', Rendlesham Forest, and calls for an inquiry into 600 alleged sightings in Bonnybridge, Scotland, known as the 'Bonnybridge Triangle'.

  • A West Lothian electrician spotted a 'Toblerone-shaped' UFO hovering over a field. A sketch of the craft is included in the report.

The files are available to download for free for a month at . The site also hosts a videocast dramatising highlights from the files alongside a detailed guide to researching the files by Dr David Clarke. The UFO files - The inside story of real-life sightings by Dr Clarke is available to buy from The National Archives online bookshop.

UK UFO Report - Wigan (Shevington) Feb 2010

I'll admit it's something of a pleasant surprise to happen upon UK UFO reports where Chinese Lanterns aren't the 'obvious' explanation!!

The following was originally posted on the 12th February 2010.

UFO Stuns Early Risers

Wigan today's very own X-Files have been opened again after an odd UFO sighting. Tony Whittle from Standish Lower Ground emailed us with this:

Wigan 2010 UFO Report"Has anyone reported a strange object to you at around 5am on Thursday morning? My wife and I were sat in bed discussing our new bathroom, only just installed yesterday.....I decided to open the curtains and went to the kitchen to make us a cup of tea. When I got back in bed my wife said she had been watching an object acting very oddly in the direction of Shevington.....We live in Standish Lower Ground. At first I thought she was dreaming or something, but sure enough a couple of minutes later the thing rose up from behind the house opposite us across the road.....It was difficult to estimate how far away it was but looked about the size of a five pence piece to me.....

It rose at about 45 degrees and then levelled out only going slow for about five seconds and then just started moving in different directions for roughly two or three minutes before going down again out of our sight.....It was a yellowy pulsating object with what looked like a small blob on top of it. One thing is certain, it was no ordinary object like a helicopter or aircraft - nothing known to man could operate something like that in a million years.....I got out my camcorder and waited until it was starting to come light but it never came back. We have hardly stopped talking about it all day."

UK UFO - CE3 - Phear Park, Exmouth (Feb 2010)

The following was originally posted on the 12th February 2010, and is the first such case reported in the UK for quite a while.

UFO seen in Phear Park, Exmouth

EXMOUTH man Roy Shaw has exclusively spoken about the moment he came face-to-face with what UFO experts are calling a Close Encounter of the Third Kind, writes Becca Gliddon.

UFO sceptic Mr Shaw, of Withycombe Village Road, is the latest resident to report seeing strange coloured lights - and says he spotted what he can only describe as a spaceship landing in Phear Park. The retired engineer and his dog ran for home when a white 'shimmering' shape began walking towards them

MR SHAW'S drawing of the UFO that he encountered in Phear Park

ROY Shaw does not believe in aliens, ghosts, flying saucers or anything he cannot physically touch or explain.

But recently Mr Shaw, a retired engineer, saw something unusual in Phear Park that frightened him so much, it caused him to run home so fast he twisted his ankle in the process.

Mr Shaw described a white, translucent shape, similar to what he has drawn here.

Mr Shaw believes he saw a UFO land in Phear Park and witnessed a 'white shape' come towards him.

The Withycombe Raleigh resident calls the experience 'weird' and is at a loss to explain what he saw. An Exmouth UFO boffin believes Mr Shaw had a brush with alien life, and calls the 'rare' event a Close Encounter of the Third Kind. Mr Shaw is worried people will think he is a crank after reading his account of the strange occurrence. But he is keen to point out that, far from believing in little green men, he remains a sceptic and still cannot give an explanation of what he saw that night.

Mr Shaw said: "The object was round in shape and about 30-feet in diameter and 100-foot long, with blue and red flashing lights on its perimeter, and it appeared to land at the top end of the park by the bowling green.....My dog started to growl when, what I can only describe as a white shape, came towards us.....It was about four-feet high and seemed to be translucent, and moved very slowly towards us.....I was transfixed because it made a droning noise which sounded like 'my my,' over and over again, which I could not understand.....I didn't know where the sound was coming from but it was coming straight towards me.....I immediately ran back down through the park."

Mr Shaw said the UFO appeared to hover over the hedge of the bowling green, then flew horizontally from left to right, before immediately shooting off at high speed, back to the left at a 45-degree angle. He said the UFO appeared from nowhere. He did not see it fly overhead, or land. Mr Shaw said his normally-placid border collie dog, Sydney, ran away from the object after baring his teeth at the approaching figure:

Roy Shaw and his dog Sydney"I twisted my ankle when I ran like hell......My dog Syd kept whimpering and kept looking out of the bedroom window towards the park until at least two in the morning…..I had problems sleeping because I just kept going over in my mind what I had seen…..I still can't believe what I saw and I am still in a state of shock…..Syd doesn't like going back up there now. Something put him off…..Everybody thinks you are crank when you report something like this…..I am an engineer. I like to touch and feel things. If I can touch it, it exists, but there's no way I can explain this."

Exmouth UFO expert Nigel Wright said: "This is a close encounter of the third kind....The definition of a third kind is having encountered an occupant of a UFO in close proximity to the craft itself…..This is a really important sighting."

And the following was posted to the Metro website, similar account with better quality pictures (so I assume were part of a 'press-pack'?)

"The object was round, about 30ft in diameter and 100ft long,
with blue and red flashing lights on its perimeter"

"It appeared to land at the top end of the park by the bowling green. My dog started to growl when what I can only describe as a white shape came towards us.....It was about 4ft high and seemed to be translucent and moved very slowly towards us."

I was transfixed because it made a droning noise,
which sounded like, 'my, my'".
