Steven Greer – Before He Was Famous!!

The person behind the extremely well intentioned, “The Disclosure Project” Steven Greer has always been followed by his fair share of controversy, I was still surprised to see Greer pop up when I recently happened across a repeat of an old programme from the "National Geographic Explorer" series; the episode in question was aired in 1994 and was titled, “Searching for Extraterrestrials”.

It was fairly tame and really just the usual Seth Shostak fodder, i.e. 'SETI vs The ETH' with the former smugly portraying believers of the latter as cranks, weirdoes etc.

But……

That wasn’t what caught my attention. What did catch my attention was a younger (but strangely older looking) Greer taking small groups of people out into the Californian desert with the following voice over:

No telescopes.
No Computers.
The tool is telepathy.
The goal? A very close encounter
.

And in Dr Greer’s own words:

Primary in the event that there’s a landing, an opportune to go on board. You will - come – on - board, okay John, and err, and you need to stay behind to document that.

Err, I’ll be boarding party member number 1, we just go around, 2, 3, 4, skip you…..

Then Greer went on to elaborate on how to set the landing/flashlights out in the event of a ‘Close approach,’ of course this was a good 6-7 years before the infamous disclosure project video was shot but I still for some reason found it somewhat alarming. I think it’s probably just seeing the ‘craziness’ that has dogged the UFO phenomenon for so long being practised and heralded by someone whom (regardless what I’d read) I’d always hoped and thought was above such silliness. (I’m not talking about the general skywatching but rather the claims that Greer was in telepathic contact with the ETs in the UFOs and as such was beckoning them to land).

This was at least three years before he ran into copyright infringement claims from the UFO Research Coalition regarding the claim that he, “Improperly duplicated and distributed a copyrighted document referred to as: The Best Available Evidence”. There was a multitude of charges related to this, more of which can be read here.

Or the claims that in Greer's book, ‘Extraterrestrial Contact’ Greer claimed to have been directly briefed about UFOs by R. James Woolsey, the former director of the CIA, at a dinner party. Shortly after Greer published his book with his apparently exaggerated account of what had taken place, Woolsey and others present at the dinner sent Greer a letter trying to set the record straight.

To view the bollocking/letter and the claims then please visit UFOWatchdog.com.

If you browse the excellent UFOWatchdog website then you will also see the details of Greer’s, “Truth For Sale” sleepover in 2004, details of which was as follows:

THE TRUTH (THE POWER ELITES DON'T WANT YOU TO KNOW)

YOU ARE INVITED TO SPEND 5 DAYS WITH DR. GREER AT HIS FARM IN VIRGINIA TO HEAR WHAT HE HAS LEARNED AFTER 14 YEARS OF INVESTIGATIONS

SORRY - ALL SPACES ARE FULL

We will put a note on the web site when recordings are available for purchase.

Start Date/Time: Sunday April 18, 2004 6 pm

End Date/Time: Thursday, April 22, 2004 midnight

Limited to 15 people, this unique event will be an oral presentation of the unvarnished truth. Designed to be the core of Dr. Greer's next book, at these presentations you will be privy to what really happens behind the scenes and to how the world's evolution has been hijacked for nearly a century by craven power interests.

The event will be an informal gathering where Dr. Greer will present his first hand accounts and personal experiences, dating from childhood, regarding:

  • The nature of reality and the experience of higher states of consciousness.
  • What extraterrestrial contact is really about.
  • What the religious elites don't want you to know about spirituality and why the priesthood is obsolete.
  • Who runs the shadowy secret government - and why.
  • The people, the corporations, facilities and agencies hiding the biggest secrets in history.
  • Who has stolen the free energy technologies - and why
  • Disclosure - The inside look at 14 years of Dr. Greer meeting with the World's Power Elites - and what they know (and don't know).
  • The next 500,000 years: Blueprint of the golden age of humanity.

And more ...

  • Dinners will be provided at the Farm and sessions will go from 1:30 pm to around midnight each evening.
  • All sessions will be recorded.
  • Weather permitting, we will gather under the stars each evening.

Fee: A minimum $600 donation to The Disclosure Project (more is appreciated).

Notes:

  • This event requires a minimum of 10 and maximum of 15 people. We will make a decision on March 28th on whether it is a "GO", depending on how many people have signed up. Please wait for notification before booking flights.
  • We reserve the right to select the 15 people from the list of applicants.
  • Everyone will be required to sign a Non-Disclosure Agreement.
  • Anyone who has not attended a CSETI training will be required to fill out an application.
  • Everyone attending must stay the whole time, except if an emergency comes up at the last minute.

But like I say I’d always held onto an (unsubstantiated) belief that he wasn’t really as ‘out there’ as had been previously claimed…..

Holy Guacamole, I never knew that either, and I go to the UFOWD site . I was so obsessed with Lindas antics it went right by me.
Well, no wonder with stuff like that the Jefferson Airplane crashed, and credibility sank once again for the movement. I had heard Greer was deteriorating somewhat, I can see why. Hmm 600 USD or 1200 pounds a night for imagining you are communicating with ETs is a little rich for my blood. I had no idea they needed currency.
I can do the same on my porch, and walkover to the fridge for a beer for free.
Now you mentioned VA, that keeps popping up Michael. Woy is from there as well as Fortwynt, I wonder if they heard of this farm or ranch. It seems these people have ranches in Va, Wa, etc with tours and fees. Atto mentioned that the last pic he sent of that pretty lap design came from the disclosure people, the new guy heading it. He never spoke more after that. Totally evades my questions. I wonder, would they stoop to a hoax to push for disclosure?
Anyway Michael keep up the great work! You are a brilliant writer and thinker.
Ufology ney..mankind needs more like you.

Thanks for posting the video clip. Steven Greer is UFOlogy's own worst enemy. What really bothers me is how willing he is to humiliate himself, and the rest of humanity by proxy, as he grovels before these alleged entities.

It's all truly sad.

Hi Michael,

another good blog entry, but...

I find it amazing that anyone who has had a serious interest in ufology for a year or more could be oblivious to details such as this?

I don't mean that as a personal criticism, but a general observation on ufology as a whole.

I am even more concerned that people who _are_ aware of such details (not only in respect to Greer or the other characters listed at UFO Watchdog) continue to lend support to these characters. I can only conclude that these hard-core supporters are;

- amongst the most gullible people on earth, or;

- mentally disturbed, or;

- benefiting directly or indirectly from the scam, or;

- just treating ufology as a form of entertainment, like watching a few episodes of 'The X files'.

I suspect that the bulk of them will fall into the last of the options above.

Cheers,

Joe

Hi Joe, of course I was aware of it but not that he was peddling his dubious *wares* as early as ’94 on national television.

The post was to vocalise my surprise at this revelation (to me) and also how alarming it was to actually see Greer spouting these claims publicly. The UFOWatchdog stuff was for the benefit of others (truth be known so is everything I/we write). I’ve got a copy of an email to a UFO list back in the 90’s in which Greer’s associates condemn his views and completely disown/separate his views from their own, the specific details elude me at present but I’ll add it to my ever-increasing, “to do” list.

Thanks for stopping by and your comments are always appreciated.

Cheers.

well, I read Greer's books and I really believe he got in contact with the aliens. And you know why? Because I know already dozens of people who did. And it's very simple and normal. It's in the same way you feel the thoughts of your beloved one, or you feel your mom is sick. I've done many times meditations with them and they are really wonderful. I'm not worried about Greer's mental health as I'm not worried about mine. I'm also a scientist and I dare to believe in my own perceptions.
About the prices he's asking for his work, I'm reminding you that he has the right to set up any price in the world as much as you have the right to refuse it. The rest is envy and gossips.
Mey Lee.
p.s. Read the message of the aliens: Decide whether we should show up!
It will clear up your doubts.

HE TELLS YOU TO TRUST THE ALIENS.... BECAUSE HE IS EVIL AND ONE OF THEM...

Mey Lee. Yes Greer has a right to charge what he likes. But why is he charging? This demonstrates greed not disclosure. If you read this blog you will notice Greer also wants people to basically sign gagging orders. lol what a hypocrite DR UFO disclosure Greer.

Greymoon, the man makes a living on his ufo work and research so to think he provides free seminars, etc is naive. As far as Greer himself, I have long been aware of his beliefs since the 90's that he could summon aliens telepathically which is why I have always questioned any of his claims. That said he did have many positive contributions to the field and brought many, more credible, people together on the subject over the years than anyone else. For me, the jury is still out on the guy. The fact that he profits is not a concern for me as I would do the same...The more money and funding you have, the more exposure on the topic can be done. Plagerizing and taking on other peoples stories is much more disconcerting.

What can be proved? All the previous comments that involve conjecture on the sanity or caliber of Dr. Greer's character or mental state is exactly that, conjecture. what can you prove? Dr Greer presents many items that can be sited, sourced and provable; and then after which proceeds with these items in developing his own theory's. Taking issue with the facts of his theory is one thing, but clamming anything else without evidence is another thing entirely. Alien or not, military or not craft are being seen, video taped, documented on radar and witnessed. The more research you do (as I have) the more you realize how strange the facts actually are. Do you homework rather than making simpleminded criticisms of things that shake your world view. So many people are so quick to dismiss things that are outside of their experience either through an entrenched exclusionary scientific view, or dogmatic religious view. Be brave, do research, you might be surprised.
